CHILD LINE

CHILDLINE is a National, 24 hours free, emergency telephone help line and outreach service for children in need of care and protection. Operating through a network of NGOs in each city, CHILDLINE not only responds to the emergency needs of the child but also links children to services for their long-term care and rehabilitation.

This is a programme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The CHILDLINE number 1098 is a toll free number that is common in all the cities of India. Initially started in Mumbai in June 1996, CHILDLINE is currently operated in 81 cities/districts.

CHILDLINE aims to reach out to the most marginalized children between the age group of 0-18 years and provides intervention of shelter, medical, restoration, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorships and emotional support and guidance. More specifically its task is to provide succor and support to children in distress.

Our target group

Although all children are free to avail of the CHILDLINE service, CHILDLINE especially addresses the need of the most vulnerable child. These include

Street children (includes abandoned and missing)
Abused children (includes bonded labour and domestic worker)
Child victims of the flesh trade
Differently abled children
Child drug addicts
Children in conflict with law
Children affected by HIV/AIDS
Children affected by conflict or disasters
Child political refugees
Children whose families are in crisis
